The E-ACTT, announced in 2021, is Autocar’s first all-electric terminal tractor. Stater Bros. is one of the first Autocar customers to take delivery. It’s the first of two that will be used at the distribution center. The company operates 171 supermarkets throughout Southern California.

The E-ACTT is a battery-powered vehicle that can operate up to 22 hours on a full charge. Its modular battery pack is compatible with the industry standard CCS1-compliant DC fast charging, and its liquid-cooled/heated batteries allow it to adapt to different work conditions. Advanced telematics and monitoring systems communicate maintenance repair needs to help improve uptime and efficiency.

“We are excited to introduce our first electric truck into our fleet with the E-ACTT and begin the process toward fleet electrification,” said Pete Van Helden, chairman and CEO of Stater Bros., in a news release.

The North American Council for Freight Efficiency concluded following last year’s Run on Less-Electric demonstration project that electric yard tractors may be a great first step for fleets interested in learning more about electrification in commercial vehicle applications.

Autocar delivered its first battery-electric terminal tractor to Old Dominion Freight Line, one of the largest less-than-truckload motor carriers in North America.

Autocar is also testing an electric cabover refuse truck.
