Forest roads present some unique challenges for truck platooning technology. Tight following distances that work on a well-paved road can be a challenge on a gravel road, slinging debris and rocks onto the vehicles behind. It is also difficult to maintain pre-set following distances on the resource road’s steep grades. FPInnovations and its partners spent some time last year testing the technology on Quebec, Canada's back roads to see just how platooning could work in those environments.
