Vikas Jain, formerly an executive with Omnitracs, has been named the new chief operating officer for Zonar.
Jain most recently was the vice president and general manager at Omnitracs. He joined Omnitracs (then known as Qualcomm) in 2010 with 14 years of experience in the mobile communications and fleet telematics industries. During his time at Omnitracs, he developed a cloud-based service through the acquisition and subsequent management of FleetRisk Advisors and Sylectus.
He also played an active role in the divesture of Omnitracs from Qualcomm for $800 million in November 2013.
Prior to Qualcomm, Jain was the director of sales at Sierra Wireless, where he was responsible for leading the automotive business in North America. He also was executive vice president and chief technology officer at PeopleNet.
Zonar is a transportation technology company that helps public and private fleets improve regulatory compliance, increase fleet efficiency and improve safety through telematics and other technologies. Zonar notes that Jain come on board "at a time of unprecedented business growth and will play an integral role in continuing to drive the overall business strategy for continued growth including mergers and acquisitions."
Jain has received several accolades, including the IBM Business Analytics Excellence Award for ROI Achievement in 2013 and two awards from Frost and Sullivan for leadership and product line strategy. Jain attended the University of Delhi and holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University.
Jain is the second Omnitracs executive in recent weeks to have moved to another company. Norm Ellis was recently named chief operating officer for New Jersey-based I.D. Systems.
