The Work Truck Show 2005 and 41st Annual National Truck Equipment Assn. Convention will feature a Fleet Management Symposium for managers of vocational truck and equipment fleets.

The day-and-a-half symposium is set for Feb. 28 – March 1, 2005.
Kelly Walker, president of fleet management consulting firm Kelly Walker Associates, Dallas, Texas, will lead the symposium, titled Master’s Seminar in Advanced Equipment, Fleet and Shop Management. It features five key elements: management of the chassis, all of its upfits, on-board inventories, the vehicle driver/tradesman and remote-monitoring technologies. Participants will learn how to integrate these elements for effective fleet and equipment management.
The first symposium day will focus on fleet asset and business management skills. Day 2 will concentrate on shop labor, fuel and technology management skills. Some of the 25 topics covered include:
* Maximizing warranties and performance guarantees.
* Applying proven negotiation strategies to reduce costs by 10% to 30%.
* Computing the 12-step fully loaded labor rate for technicians and tradesmen.
* Applying optimum fuel management models.
* Applying remote GPS tracking and onboard monitoring and messaging to manage mobile work crews and fleet assets.
For fleet managers interested in becoming certified, the symposium is a prerequisite to earning advanced certification and master’s degree certification in equipment, fleet and shop management from Walker. The certification program is endorsed by the Rocky Mountain Fleet Management Association, Association of Equipment Management Professionals and the National Council of State Fleet Administrators.
Fleet Management Symposium registration includes a complimentary Conference & Trade Show Package entitling access to the show floor, conference sessions, and the March 3 Truck Fleet Manager Training Session & Networking Luncheon. Symposium registration is $299 through Feb. 18, 2005; $399 after Feb. 19, 2005.
The Work Truck Show 2005 will be held at the Indiana Convention Center & RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Ind. The show runs March 2–4, with the convention and educational sessions starting March 1. The Symposium is held Monday, Feb. 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. and resumes Tuesday, March 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
