The Women In Trucking Association recently held a board meeting to approve the addition of three new board members and accept resignations from three charter directors.

Chris Burruss, president of the Truckload Carriers Association, was approved to fill the seat vacated by Deborah Sparks, TCA's vice president of development. Burruss joined the TCA in March 2004 after serving as president of the Tennessee Trucking Association since May of 1999.

Phyllis Cochran, president of the Parts Group of Navistar, was approved to fill the seat vacated by H. Lenora Hardee, Ph.D., manager of Navistar's Human Factors and Ergonomics Group. Cochran has held various positions at Navistar, starting in 1979 as assistant controller in the finance department and moving through the ranks until she joined the Parts Group. Cochran also serves on the Executive Council.

The board also filled a vacant seat with the appointment of Jan Hamblin, J. J. Keller & Associates' corporate sales manager of strategic accounts. Hamblin has spent the last 35 years at the Neenah, Wis., company, where she oversees trucking industry association partnerships and member participation. This seat was vacated by former director, Jayne Gunn, Sunbury Transport, Canada.

"Our goal is to represent the trucking industry as a whole," said Leigh Foxall, Women In Trucking's chairwoman.

These three directors join Foxall, director of sales and marketing at Internet Truckstop, Marge Bailey, CEO of DriverFinder.net, Elisabeth Barna, vice president of Strategic Planning and Outreach at American Trucking Associations, Jeff Hammonds, vice president of Walmart Transportation, Maggie Peterson, professional driver for YRCW, Mark Rousseau, national logistics manager for Frito-Lay North America, and Deborah Whistler, special projects editor for Fleet Owner Magazine.

Women In Trucking was established to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments and minimize obstacles faced by women working in the trucking industry. For more information visit www.womenintrucking.org.
