A free webinar Dec. 6 will cover the issues surrounding the truck parking shortage and innovative ways this problem can be addressed.
It's being put on by the Trucking Industry Mobility & Technology Coalition and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Recent improvements in industry economics have put more trucks and freight on the nation's roads and highways. At the same time, government budget shortfalls have reduced the number of truck parking spaces available to truck drivers.

In fact, truck parking as an industry concern appeared for the first time ever on the American Transportation Research Institute's Top Industry Issues survey in 2012, garnering the 8th spot on the list.

Until new funding is identified for expanding truck-parking capacity, the best solution is providing real-time information to truck drivers on existing parking availability.

Recent research has identified the trucking industry's expectations and requirements needed of the various FHWA-sponsored "truck parking information system" tests that are being conducted throughout the U.S.

The webinar will feature:

- Tom Kearney, Manager, Freight Operations, Federal Highway Administration
- Dan Murray, Vice President, ATRI
- Vassilios Morellas, Program Director, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Minnesota
- Dave Miller, Founder and COO of Gnosis Management and former Senior VP for Con-way Inc.

Participants will need access to the internet and a telephone. For free registration, visit the TIMTC website at www.freightmobility.com or click here. An email with instructions for joining the webinar will be sent to all registrants.

The Trucking Industry Mobility & Technology Coalition is jointly managed by the American Transportation Research Institute, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the American Trucking Associations.
