Washington's new troopers carry $25,000 in specialized equipment to target unsafe trucks.
The Washington State Patrol has added 31 specially trained troopers to target unsafe truck drivers.
According to the Vancouver, Wash., Columbian, the troopers will go after truckers who speed, drive aggressively, follow too closely or use the left lane of a highway where it's prohibited. They're also equipped with a set of portable scales for weighing trucks. The troopers are members of the Commercial Vehicle Division and are trained to do equipment and driver inspections, as well.
Because of all the specialized equipment these troopers carry, you will see them driving two-wheel-drive SUVs such as Ford Expeditions and Chevrolet Tahoes.
