Volvo Trucks North America was honored along with the likes of the Apple iMac and the new Volkswagen Beetle with a "Designs of the Decade" award.

Volvo received the Silver award in the transportation category (one of seven categories) from the Industrial Designers Society of America for its VN Series highway tractor.
According to the society, winners represent "icons of design from the past 10 years." Winning designs were required to demonstrate a clear, significant contribution to a business, such as creating or revolutionizing a market, improving a company's cost efficiency or significantly increasing sales.
For Volvo, the VN Series boosted sales by 63% -- from 22,000 units in 1997 to 36,000 in 1999. More than 60,000 VN models have been sold or ordered.
