Ambassador Gunnar Lund and the staff of the Embassy of Sweden toured Volvo Powertrain North America’s production facility in Hagerstown, Md., recently
to get a first-hand look at Volvo’s $150 million investment in advanced engine production and development technology.
Ambassador Lund and the embassy staff were briefed by Sten-Ake Aronsson, Volvo Powertrain senior vice president, and Roger Johnston, Volvo Powertrain North America vice president and general manager, on Volvo’s recent investment in Hagerstown and the plant’s transformation to produce a new generation of heavy-duty diesel engines for the Volvo Group in North America.
They then toured the assembly areas, including the new production line for the current Volvo D12 and D16 engines, which were previously built in Sweden and shipped to the U.S., and the line that will build the new generation of engines. The visitors also saw the new Engine Development Lab, still under construction, which will be a state-of-the-art facility for diesel engine design, testing and certification.
Volvo Trucks North America assembles its Volvo VT, VN and VHD trucks in the United States, at the ISO14001 and ISO9001 certified New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Va. Volvo engines for North America are produced in Hagerstown, Md.
