Verizon Wireless, Bedminster, N.J., the nation’s largest wireless service provider, has introduced Verizon Wireless Push to Talk service.
Verizon’s Push to Talk provides the same kind of two-way-radio-style wireless phone service that had been offered exclusively by Nextel Communications until now.
Nextel calls its service Direct Connect and has many trucking customers, especially among local, regional and private fleet operators. Direct Connect had been available on a regional basis until June when Nextel took the service national. Verizon’s Push to Talk is available nationally as well.
Sprint PCS has also said it intends to introduce a similar walky-talky-style service in the near future.
