Trucking software developer TMW Systems and Pennsylvania-based Venezia Transport Services recently completed the implementation of the TMWSuite enterprise solution.
"Venezia's whole IT group, lead by Kristi Venezia, IT Director, did a wonderful job during this implementation. Not only had we just re-located our corporate offices, but we asked TMW to also provide us with Great Plains Accounting at the same time," said Louis Capolino, vice president of operations at Venezia. "It couldn't have worked without talented professionals from both organizations. It was hard work, but the results were worth it. We now have a complete enterprise systems which allows us greater insight into our operation and makes it easier to share information and pass accurate data back and forth instantaneously."
Venezia Transport Services, based in Limerick, Pa., offers local and over-the-road dry bulk, tanker, flatbed and van services. The family-owned and operated company specializes in dedicated dry, liquid, LP gas, petroleum, chemical and food-grade bulk delivery. The Venezia fleet of 400 tractors and 800 trailers operates from seven facilities in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions.
The diversity of the Venezia operation creates complex business scenarios, Capolino noted. Included are operating divisions that share resources, a high level of service demands by customers and a variety of business and resource requirements that require the elimination of any errors in the equipment assignment process.
"We came to the conclusion that purchasing entirely new operating and information management systems was the best route to take," Capolino explained.
Another reason for Venezia's decision, Capolino pointed out, was that the carrier's existing financial package was lacking functions it needed to streamline its operation. "The full integration between TMWSuite and the Microsoft Great Plains accounting package was also an important part of our decision," he said. "We did not have a full accounting package before and we were very impressed with the fully integrated features between the two systems.
"We also felt that both our existing system and the other solutions on the market did not address the particular needs of bulk carriers," Capolino continued. "TMW's Bulk Steering Committee, on the other hand, is the best thing going."
