Oshkosh has been tapped to produce another $1.06 billion worth of M-ATVs for the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command Life Cycle Management Command.
Oshkosh Defense will supply the additional 1,700 MRAP All Terrain Vehicles by February, as well as aftermarket parts packages by April.

On June 30, Oshkosh won the bid from the U.S. Department of Defense to provide an initial 2,244 M-ATVs worth $1.05 billion.

"At Oshkosh, our main focus is to ensure that M-ATVs are waiting in theater for the Warfighters when they arrive, rather than having the Warfighter wait for the vehicle," said Robert Bohn, chairman and CEO of Oshkosh Corporation. "We are confident in our ability to ramp up production to 1,000 per month in December and this additional order will allow us to sustain that rate of production through February 2010."

Oshkosh delivered the first 46 units in July.

The new vehicle is equipped with the company's TAK-4 independent suspension system, which has undergone more than 400,000 miles of government testing. The M-ATV armor system on the trucks was provided by Plasan North America, which also supplied the system for more than 5,000 legacy MRAPs and thousands of Oshkosh Armored Cab MTVRs.
