Truckstop Sets Blood Drive Record

Muralt's Travel Plaza, an AMBEST and Conoco truckstop in Missoula, Mont.. collected 531 units of blood last week, setting a new record as Montana's largest annual blood drive,
and a new national record in the NATSO Foundation's "Drive To Save Lives" effort.
"Our original goal of 400 units was quickly reassessed after the first day of the drive and boosted to 500 pints," said travel plaza owner Walt Muralt. "Truck drivers, in the aftermath of the terrorists attacks, were especially diligent in contributing to the drive."
Muralt said that one driver made his trip to Seattle and back in order to be the first in line when the drive started. A husband and wife team donated while their tractor was being serviced in Muralt's shop.
For the fourth consecutive year, Muralt's Drive To Save Lives effort broke the national collection record for truckstops. Nationally, NATSO member truckstops have contributed 30,000 units of blood to the Red Cross since inception of the program in 1993.
