G.I. Jobs recently released its list of the Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers, which included such trucking companies as J.B. Hunt Transport Services (ranking 16), Schneider National (18), and Werner Enterprises (25).
Other transportation companies topping the list included CSX Corporation, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation and Norfolk Southern Corporation. The Eaton Corporation also ranked at 59 on the list.
In its seventh year, G.I. Jobs' list recognizes U.S. companies that make strong efforts and have the greatest success in hiring military veterans.
"G.I. Jobs created the Top Military-Friendly Employers list to help military veterans gauge which companies are committed to hiring individuals who possess the values and skills instilled in them during their time of service," said Dan Fazio, managing editor of G.I. Jobs.
This is the fourth year Schneider has been on the list. The company's military program includes extended benefits and differential pay for soldiers deployed 18 months, guaranteed home time for weekend drill and annual training, a quick-hire process, and nationwide opportunities throughout Schneider's network of offices, maintenance facilities and operating centers.
"We remain committed to hiring those who possess values similar to ours and have served-or are continuing to serve-our country," said Mike Hinz, vice president of driver recruitment and LTC, retired, U.S. Army Reserve.
In addition, Schneider participates in several programs to help members of the military obtain employment, including the ROTC Pays Program, the Schneider National Veterans Owner-Operator program, the Apprenticeship Program, the Army Reserve Employer Partnership, and the Vetrepreneur Program.
Over the years the G.I. Jobs list has grown from the Top 25 to the Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers; this year's list was open to companies with annual revenue of at least $500 million, down from previous years' $1 billion annual revenue requirement, to enable recognition of other programs that employ thousands of veterans.
