Gorgeous rigs, trucker games, fireworks, free steaks, a free concert, exhibits and more can be found starting tomorrow night at the Alamo Travel Center in Reno-Sparks, Nev., as Newport’s TruckerFest 2000 gets under way.
Four days of TruckerFest activities officially kick off Thursday evening, Aug. 17, with the Parade of Pride through downtown Reno. All truckers are welcome, whether they're competing in the truck beauty contest or not. Be at the Alamo by 5 p.m. if you want to participate.
The truck beauty contest held at the event will be the kickoff event in the new Stars & Stripes Show Truck Series, a new venture from the National Association of Show Trucks and Newport Communications and sponsored by Freightliner and Chevron. More than $20,000 in cash and prizes will be distributed, and the top three finishers in the Bobtail & Combo "Best of Show" category will qualify for the national championship event at the Mid-America Trucking Show next March.
Starting Friday, Aug. 18, at the Alamo Travel Center, things get into high gear from 8 a.m. till late that night as the first of 10,000 New York steak dinners hit the grill for licensed truckers. Truckers can check out the dozens of exhibits and participate in the trucker games, where prizes will be awarded to each of the contestants.
Friday evening will feature a concert by Neal McCoy and Collin Raye. Valid CDL holders and their spouses get in free.
On Saturday, exhibits will be open all day, and the trucker games will continue throughout the afternoon, including the Best Buddy Pet Contest. That night there’s the NAST night light show of trucks, a fireworks extravaganza sponsored by Peterbilt and Caterpillar, and more live entertainment.
The event will wrap up at 1 p.m. Sunday after the winners of the truck beauty contest
are announced.
