TruckerFest Honors America's Drivers
Truckers from across the nation flocked to Reno, Nev., over the weekend as the annual TruckerFest driver appreciation event wrapped up at the Alamo Travel Plaza

Neal McCoy entertains the crowd at TruckerFest Friday night.
Highlights of the fifth annual event, put on by Newport Communications and The Alamo Thursday through Sunday, included fireworks, a truck parade and a free concert for truckers from entertainer Neal McCoy.
On Thursday more than 60 trucks took part in the annual “Parade of Pride” through downtown Reno as thousands took time out to wave and cheer on the drivers and their custom rigs. Most of the trucks in the parade also took part in the Stars & Stripes Truck Beauty Contest, sponsored by Chevron and held at the Alamo with cash prizes handed out to the winners.
On Friday and Saturday the days were filled with dozens of exhibitors, trucker games, the Mack Trucks Best Buddy Pet Contest, musical entertainment from Joey Holiday, and free steak dinners for CDL drivers courtesy of Crete Carriers, Interstate Dist., Landstar and Schneider National.
Friday night a jam-packed crowd showed up to see Neal McCoy make a return appearance to TruckerFest. He delivered a concert with music ranging from his original country material to rock, blues and even rap, keeping the crowd on their feet the entire time.
Saturday night, there was the night light truck show with many of the Stars and Stripes participants showing off their custom light schemes, plus a 20-minute fireworks salute to America’s truckers.
It all came to big end on Sunday afternoon with more entertainment, food and exhibits as well as the awarding of the prizes in the Stars & Stripes Truck Beauty Contest. (See separate story)
The economic slump and tough times for trucking didn't keep truckers away. One driver said events like TruckerFest are needed even more during the tough times, because it gives drivers the feeling that there are still people out there who appreciate the hard work they do every day.
