Among the highlights at this weekend's Truck Show Latino in Pomona, Calif., will be a Stars & Stripes truck competition, with more than two dozen dazzling and decked-out big rigs competing
for trophies and prizes.
Truck Show Latino and the Construction Truck and Equipment Expo will be at the Fairplex in Pomona from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Visitors to last year’s show at the Fairplex in Pomona might remember seeing some of these show trucks on display, offering showgoers the opportunity to admire their shine and custom chrome exteriors up close and personal. This year, it's not a static display but an exciting competition. To date, 28 of the top working trucks from around the nation and Canada have signed up to compete for top bragging rights.
Three main classes are planned for Working Bobtails, Specialized Trucks (such as dump trucks, wreckers, sanitation trucks, etc.) and Classics from model years 1980 or older. All trucks can enter the Interior, Paint or Engine classes. A Waterford crystal and custom rosewood base “Best of Show” trophy will be awarded to the truck earning the most points in main, interior and engine classes.
Long-haul trucks that run fewer than 75,000 miles or local vocation trucks running fewer than 25,000 miles will compete separately in the Limited Mileage division. The overall winner of this division will receive a similar trophy.
All classes will be awarded to third place. Entries are still open. To get entry information, contact Diana Owens at (916) 786-3073, ext 10. Trucks must be on site Friday, Oct. 20, to register. Judging will take place Saturday and presentation of trophies will be on Sunday.
Truck Show Latino and the Construction Truck and Equipment Expo are being promoted in industry magazines, on trucker and Latino radio, on posters, point-of-purchase displays in truckstops, dealerships and distribution centers, via direct mail and bilingual web sites.
Newport Communications Group publishes Heavy Duty Trucking and RoadStar magazines. Independent Trade Show Management produces The Truck Show-Las Vegas.
For further information about Truck Show Latino, contact Susan Patterson at (800) 233-1922, Ext. 233. For more details about the Construction Truck & Equipment Expo, call (909) 982-9898.
