Used-truck retailers recorded their second-best selling month of the year in August. The average selling price of sleeper tractors also improved more than expected to levels on par with the best month of pre-recession 2008.
As of August, the average sleeper tractor sold off a dealer's lot was just under six years old, had 523,399 miles, and sold for $48,348, according to the October issue of Guidelines.
"With August's used truck sales numbers up more than we expected, plus an uptick in August and September new-truck orders, the truck industry is proving the economic naysayers wrong," says Chris Visser, senior analyst with the ATD/NADA Commercial Truck Guide.
