Truck Dealer of the Year Brings 'Green' Campaign to Technology Summit

Beltway Companies of Baltimore, Md., was among the businesses represented at a Green Technology Summit in Frederick, Md., recently.
Beltway President Jack Saum, named the 2010 Truck Dealer of the Year by ATD and Heavy Duty Trucking magazine, used the event to tout his dealership's "A New Truck is a 'Green' Truck" campaign, which he started in 2008.
The event was sponsored by U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett in conjunction with the e-ventplex at the Frederick Fairgrounds, Frederick County Office of Economic Development and the Frederick City Department of Economic Development.
Saum, who also has served as ATD International line representative, came up with the idea following an NADA/ATD regulatory affairs meeting and hosted an open house at his dealership in 2008. Beltway Companies showcased its "green" campaign at the technology summit by displaying an International ProStar. Back in 2008, Navistar conducted extensive third-party over-the-road testing that demonstrated the ProStar to be 7 percent more fuel efficient than its closest competitor, the Freightliner Cascadia.
According to Rep. Bartlett's website, the summit was organized "to provide practical ways you can save money, use less energy, and help our country transition to domestic, cleaner and renewable energy sources." It featured 130 indoor and outdoor exhibitors and 30 speakers, including Rep. Bartlett, Sen. Ben Cardin, and the director of the Maryland Energy Administration, Malcolm Woolf.
