A convoy of more than 75 trucks is scheduled to parade through Salt Lake City Friday night to kick off the 10th annual Great Salt Lake Truck Show, held at the West Valley Truck Center at 5600 West and 2100 South.
At least 150 trucks are expected to compete over the weekend in a truck beauty contest.
"We feel like our show has three purposes," says spokesperson Carleen Park. "One is to let the truckers be proud and show off their trucks. Another reason is to bring awareness to Utah of the trucking industry, let them sit in the truck and see the blind spots. The third is to raise money for the National Kidney Foundation."
Proceeds will go to the National Kidney Foundation of Utah. The donations pay for a weekend Truck Show Kidney Kamp, held in September, as well as going toward research and other activities.
The convoy begins at 7 p.m. Friday. Saturday, a 5K fun run/walk will start at 8 a.m., ending up at the truck show. The show opens at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the truck beauty contest, there will be 76 vendors, food, raffles, and fun activities for kids and adults. There will be a truck light show at 8 p.m. Saturday. Sunday, the show concludes with an awards presentation at 3 p.m.
Park says this year's show is the biggest since it was founded by Jeff England, owner of Pride Transport. The new location this year will let them accommodate more trucks than the somewhat cramped fairgrounds location used previously.
