The Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau and the Tire Industry Association announced the winner of their "Guess the Pressure" contest at the Technology & Maintenance Council's Transportation Technology Exhibition on February 10.

Using only a "thumper," Lawrence Adams, President of Sterling Transportation Services in Blair, Nebraska had the closest guess for the inflation of the three retreaded tires on display in the TRIB booth. Adams guessed no closer than 20 psi of the correct inflation. As a result, Mr. Adams has won a TIA Fleet Tire Service OSHA Compliance Training Program worth $300.

"Contestants' guesses were all over the place, with many being as far off as 30 psi per tire. But, Lawrence clearly has a gift when it comes to checking tire pressure, and TRIB congratulates him on being the closest to the mark," said TRIB Managing Director David Stevens.

"Improper air pressure is a major contributor to shortened tire life, and it can have dire safety consequences. Thus, it's important that the 'gospel' of correct tire pressure be spread as wide as possible. That's why we're glad to be partnering with TRIB to share this important message in such a fun way," said TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.

Every contestant received a free air gauge and a reminder that the only accurate way to check pressure is with a properly calibrated air gauge.
