TravelCenters of America announces its new StayFit health & wellness initiative designed to help professional drivers make "better-for-you" choices about what to eat and exercise while on the road.
The StayFit program launches January 1, 2011, just in time for New Year's Resolutions.
"Drivers have asked ask us to help them be healthier and make better food choices." said Tom O'Brien, President and CEO of TravelCenters of America. "Our facilities have the room, the systems and the flexibility to offer a program like StayFit for the benefit of those drivers. Only full-service facilities like TA and Petro can offer a program with all the elements of StayFit. We do this because we listen, and respect the needs of our guests. We want them to live healthy lives doing what they love to do and keeping our country moving."
The StayFit program includes elements for better living:
* Awareness - TA & Petro locations are making healthy living information available to drivers. The company's RoadKing and Driver Seat magazines publish a health and wellness related column in every issue.
* Medical Services - The company works together with the St. Christopher's Driver Relief Fund, which operates a Medical Resource Vehicle. The MeRV visits TA and Petro locations and provides medical screening and bloodwork, and distributes health information to drivers.
* Diet - Petro Iron Skillet and TA Country Pride and other full service restaurants feature the StayFit icon to indicate better-for-you meal choices for drivers. The StayFit icon will also appear on groceries and snack items in all TA and Petro travel stores, to indicate items which are lower in calories, sugar, carbohydrates or sodium or other dietary advantages designated by their producer as better for you.
* Exercise - Ten selected TA and Petro locations up and down I-95 and along I-40 have opened driver fitness rooms with aerobic exercise equipment exclusively for the use of drivers who are members of the UltraONE club. Other locations offer walking or jogging trail maps in the surrounding area.
The Company encourages all drivers to consult with their physician before starting any fitness or wellness program elements.
