TravelCenters Fuels Interstate Highway Convoy
TravelCenters of America (TA) will fuel the celebration of a significant nationwide milestone this month – the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Interstate Highway System

TravelCenters of America (TA) will fuel the celebration of a significant nationwide milestone this month – the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Interstate Highway System.
TA will supply free diesel fuel to a cross-country convoy sponsored by the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHTO).
Primarily following Interstate 80, the convoy will leave San Francisco on June 16 and arrive in Washington, D.C., on June 29 – exactly a half-century after President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956, which provided initial funding for Interstate highway construction.
“The national network of safe and efficient highways that today facilitates commerce and travel was visionary when it was conceived,” said Tom Liutkus, director of advertising and public relations. “As an Interstate-based business, we at TA are pleased to support AASHTO’s celebration of an investment that has brought all of America closer together.”
John Horsley, executive director of AASHTO, said, “We greatly appreciate TA’s support as we travel across the country to remind people of the importance of the Interstate System to the American way of life. This is a time for all to celebrate our nation’s unparalleled 46,837-mile web of superhighways and think about how they will serve our country in the future.”
Liutkus pointed out that as the most comprehensive network of full-service travel centers in North America, TA’s history is closely entwined with that of the nation’s Interstate highways.
“TA was founded nearly 35 years ago specifically to serve the needs of the millions of vehicles – the professional truck driver, the RV’er enthusiasts, the business travelers, tour buses, and of course, the family vacationers – that travel the Interstate network every day.”
ASHTO represents departments of transportation in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. For more information about the convoy, visit www.interstate50th.org.
