Transport for Christ Sunday dedicated its 25th truckstop chapel, this one at the Sapp Bros. Travel Plaza in Commerce City, CO.
The semi-trailer converted into a chapel is the first in Colorado for the ministry. It will be open seven days a week, with two services on Sunday and a Wednesday night bible study.
Transport for Christ began in 1951 when a group of Christian truckers started a traveling ministry. The ministry started putting permanent chapels at truckstops in 1986.
Lee Tracy, a Transport for Christ chaplain and a trucker for 33 years, told the Rocky Mountain News that it's nearly impossible for truckers to attend church regularly. "On the road, it is difficult, of not impossible, to find a church with a parking lot that can park a big rig. Some churches post big signs saying 'No Trucks Allowed.'"
