Gary Cockrell of Flowery Branch, Ga., was selected as the Truck Renting and Leasing Association's 2008 Driver of the Year.
Cockrell, an employee of Ryder System, Inc., will be recognized at TRALA's 2008 annual meeting on April 4 in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition to an all-expense paid trip to the event for himself and his wife, Rebecca, Cockrell will receive a trophy and cash prize.
Cockrell was chosen 2008 Driver of the Year because of his outstanding driving and safety record, said TRALA officials. He has driven without an accident for 32 years and maintained a perfect driver's log for 25 consecutive years with Ryder System.
He was previously named Ryder's Supply Chain Solutions Driver of the Year 2006; Team Driver of the Year 2006 and Team Driver of the Month for August 2006. In addition, he trains new drivers, and volunteers for Agape Ranch, a summer day camp in Cleveland, Ga., for autistic individuals.
This year, 14 drivers received certificates of merit for their outstanding service:
