The Truck Renting and Leasing Assn. has decided to establish a "Truck Security Task Force" to assist TRALA staff in guiding policy relating to security matters involving rented and leased trucks.
The Sept. 11 terrorist attack has focused nationwide attention on the potential for terrorism involving all modes of transportation, including leased and rented vehicles. TRALA Chairman, Reed Murphy, MHC Truck Leasing, is appointing committee members to serve on the task force. The task force will meet regularly to review truck security developments and make recommendations for responding to rapidly changing events.
As part of the emphasis on security concerns and their potential impact on truck renting and leasing, TRALA is carefully following all developments in this area in Washington, D.C., and in the states. On Oct. 10, TRALA staff attended a Senate hearing addressing truck and bus security, and the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold its own hearing this week. TRALA is also working with the FBI and the U.S. Department of Transportation to assist them in gathering information as needed.
