Top Owner-Operator Uses Rand-McNally RouteTools
Technology has helped owner-operator Henry Shriver succeed in the trucking business. Shriver, a 30-year veteran driver, was recently recognized as one of the top independent truck drivers in the nation by Truckload Carriers Assn

(TCA) for his ability to run a successful enterprise, operate in a safe manner over the highways, and enhance the public image of the trucking industry.
Shriver explained that to manage his business and practice safe driving, he uses RouteTools software from Rand McNally. RouteTools calculates the quickest truck-drivable route to destinations with the click of a mouse and saves hours of manual entry by calculating state mileage for fuel tax reporting. RouteTools also helps drivers stay compliant with truck-type routing.
The Windows-based software provides detailed itineraries and full-color mapping and mileage calculations using Household Goods (HHG).
“With Rand McNally’s RouteTools, I can compare different routes for my 48-foot or 53-foo. trailer/truck configurations using the best direction-finding and truck stop information available,” said Shriver. “I spend 20% to 22% of my gross income on fuel, so when I’m on the road, my wife sends me routing updates in order for me to take advantage of lower fuel and tax costs. Better fuel stop planning provides a tremendous bottom line benefit to my business. RouteTools also helps me avoid long delays with RoadWork construction updates, and enables me to customize my routes to avoid fines; and, I can safely plan my entire itinerary from beginning to end, whether it¹s a straight shot or a multiple stop route.
“It¹s a great tool to help me meet on-time delivery schedules and reduce costs.”
