After a record second quarter, Cleveland-based software supplier TMW Systems says it’s seeing signs that the industry is recovering.
Sales in the second quarter at TMW were 272% higher than the first quarter of the year. President and CEO Tom Weisz said there has been a recent growth in technology spending by fleets, indicating the economy is improving and fleets still see information systems as a key tool for achieving efficiencies and identifying competitive advantages. "Today, demand is strong,” Weisz said. “We have an exceptionally strong pipeline, the strongest we've seen in some time."
Weisz said technology typically requires a longer decision cycle, sometimes many months, and at the end of last year many carriers postponed purchasing decisions longer than usual. But now he is seeing carriers again broadening their planning horizons and shortening their decision cycle. “Our second quarter success…is testament to the confidence carriers have in an economic turnaround,” he said. “By investing today in an enterprise system, they are strategically positioning themselves to rebound faster and stronger than those companies that simply stand pat."
Weisz said recent positive economic reports from the U.S. Department of Commerce on consumer spending, construction spending, and manufacturing activity were leading trucking companies to confidently position themselves for renewed growth.
