TMC Introduces a New Version of VMRS

2 min to read

The Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) has released the latest version of its Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards, perhaps better known by its initials, VMRS.

VMRS 2000 1.04 contains more that 1,000 new or enhanced codes that were not part of release 1.03. Many of these new codes are aimed at the off-highway segment of the equipment industry.
TMC offers three levels of VMRS 2000 1.04 licensing. The single-site license allows the user to install VMRS 2000 1.04 on a single computer. For companies that have a diverse arrangement of computers and repair sites, the enterprise license version is available.
Third-party software development companies use the developer version. These companies may wish to integrate the VMRS 2000 1.04 codes into their product. Users of either the enterprise or developer version are eligible for free quarterly updates of VMRS-related products.
Some ugrades in VMRS 2000 1.04 are:
* New system and assembly categories have been created to accommodate the unique reporting needs of the off-highway and stationary equipment markets.
* Work Accomplished Code (Code Key 15) has been updated for greater granularity when identifying various types of work performed by service technicians.
* Technician's Failure Code (Code Key 18) has been expanded to accommodate additional failure conditions as requested by VMRS customers.
* The Special Applications Group (X6X) has been expanded and renamed Equipment Dependent Attachments to accommodate these types of devices. The introduction of this system allows users to track the expense associated with major attachments (those that warrant their own asset number) that are only operational when attached to a host piece of equipment (i.e. a truck mounted snow blower, or perhaps a plow).
* The total number of Code Key 33 Component Codes has jumped to more than 17,000.
* Codes for material handling equipment have been added.
VMRS can be used as a way to standardize reports and analyze the reliability of a host of products and components. TMC is the official standard-setting custodian of VMRS.
For more information about VMRS 2000 1.04, contact Mark Williams, TMC's VMRS Services Manager, at mwilliams@truck-ing.org or 336-644-8797.
