Drivers Leonard Lamreau and Jeffrey Morrison owe their continued trucking careers to Truckers Helping Truckers, the Kansas City, MO-based group that assists drivers in need.
When a doctor told Leonard Lamreau that his vision failed to meet Department of Transportation requirements, the driver saw his trucking career coming to an end. Only a cornea transplant would give him the quality of vision needed to keep his CDL, and his medical insurance didn’t cover the procedure.
After asking THT for assistance, the group helped the Cornhusker Motor Lines driver pay for the transplant. Lamreau is recovering from the surgery and is hoping to get back behind the wheel soon.
Jeffrey Morrison also turned to THT for help when an accident nearly ended his new career as an owner-operator.
After using the majority of his savings to buy a tractor-trailer and to make the transition from company driver to owner-operator, Morrison was making a delivery when a car crossed the centerline into his path. To avoid a head-on collision, Morrison hit the guard rail and damaged both the truck and trailer. Damage to his rig was $11,000 and, unable to drive for three weeks, bills began to mount. THT helped extend Morrison’s payments on many of his bills and brought several others current to keeps his trucking career alive.
Funded primarily by donations from the National Assn. of Independent Truckers, THT is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping truckers who face an unforeseen crisis. If you would like to make a donation or request additional information, call (816) 891-0848.
