Chuck Harter already knew he was a winner when his boss gave him a new Volvo VT 880 with a 625-horsepower Volvo D16 engine. But Harter proved to be exceptionally lucky when he was chosen
as the grand prize winner of Volvo’s “Discover the Treasure” sweepstakes, winning $10,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the Bahamas.
Nearly 19,000 entrants with U.S. commercial drivers licenses entered the sweepstakes.
The theme of the sweepstakes was inspired by Walt Disney Picture’s upcoming movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” Volvo Trucks North America is publicizing the new movie as a way to continue the excitement created by the launch of Volvo’s flagship, the Volvo VT 880.
Harter is already excited by the Volvo VT 880: “I love every aspect of it,” he said. “I like the vision you have in it, a great field of vision, with no center post in the windshield. And it drives better than other trucks could ever dream of doing. Plus, my wife tells me I’m not as tired now when I get home with the Volvo.”
Harter, who lives in Goliad, Texas, has been a professional driver for 35 years, the last 18 as a company driver for R. Turner Trucking in Brownsville, Texas. Prior to this, he was an owner-operator for the same company. He said Roy Turner, the company owner, lets him pick a new truck every three or four years. This time he chose the VT 880, the first Volvo he’s ever driven.
He is looking forward to going to the Bahamas later this year with his wife and daughter for the second part of his prize. An avid fisherman, Harter is eager to go deep-sea fishing while on vacation.
