Teletouch Launches Visao Tracking Subsidiary
Teletouch Communications, Tyler, Texas, has created a new subsidiary named Visao Systems Inc

to develop and distribute wireless telemery-based mobile asset tracking and personal monitoring products.
The company’s untethered trailer tracking product, formerly known as GeoTrax, will be marketed by the new subsidiary. According to a Teletouch spokesperson, the company has dropped the GeoTrax name because of copyright problems. Until a new name is announced, the trailer product will be known as the Teletouch Visao Asset Tracking Device.
According to the Teletouch announcement, the name Visao is derived from a variation of the Portuguese word for vision and is pronounced vih-SAY-oh.
"Visao is focused entirely on telemetry. This focus will enable the new company to establish a position of leadership in this emerging market," said Visao President Kernan Crotty. "The phenomenal growth in wireless telemetry services has created a demand for quality and innovation that we are uniquely situated to meet."
Telemetry technology involves the use of satellite forwarded signals. Teletouch trailer tracking uses the GlobalStar satellite system.
The Teletouch trailer tracking system consists of a self-contained device attached to the roof of a trailer. It is battery operated and transmits location either on a pre-programmed basis or on the occurrence of a particular event, such as door opening or closing. It can also be activated by motion, reporting when the trailer starts or stops.
The personal monitoring system uses similar technology to provide location information of individuals and supply a communication link to alert appropriate personnel automatically in the event of an emergency. The small, lightweight, safe personal alert device can be carried or worn on a belt.
All Visao tracking and monitoring systems can use GeoFleet mapping and monitoring software. The systems also can be customized and integrated with other asset tracking and accounting programs.
