The Truckload Carriers Association and CarriersEdge are now taking nominations for the 2010 Best Fleets to Drive For contest, which recognizes top employers in the North American for-hire trucking industry.
"This survey focuses attention on promoting the companies that are already doing a good job, and pushes others to follow in their footsteps - continually improving the overall average and status quo," said Chris Burruss, TCA president.
To be considered, nominations must come from company drivers or owner-operators for carriers that operate 10 trucks or more, and companies only need one nomination. Fleets will be evaluated through telephone interviews in a number of areas, including benefits, professional development, driver and community support, safety record and company culture. CarrierEdge will then survey a selection of the nominee's drivers to gather further information.
For the first time, the contest will take into account the differences in running a fleet of owner-operators versus a fleet of company drivers. Winners will be chosen in four different categories, including Best Fleet for Owner-Operators with over 100 drivers and under 100 drivers, respectively, and Best Fleet for Company Drivers with over 100 drivers and under 100 drivers, respectively.
"We've learned a lot from last year's contest winners, who demonstrated that, regardless of the economic climate, fleets that invest in their people are more productive and more profitable," said Mark Murrell, president of CarriersEdge.
Nominations will be accepted through Oct. 31, 2009.
