The Truckload Carriers Association has named two truckers Highway Angels in separate events for assisting people in need of help while on the road.
Bison Transport driver, Jason Levreault of Manitoba, Canada and ABF Freight System driver, Josh Elmore of Lincolnton, N.C., are the most recent truckers recognized for their helpful acts in dangerous situations.
Levreault was driving east in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan when he witnessed two tractor trailers collide on the side of the highway. Thinking quickly, Levreault called 911 and checked on the first driver, who was fine.
The second driver was conscious but injured and Levreault stayed with him until help arrived. Due to the cold temperatures that morning, Levreault ended up with frostbite on his hand after touching the truck while helping the driver.
The second driver that the TCA named a Highway Angel also came upon a situation that needed quick thinking while driving along Interstate 4 in Orlando, Fla. Elmore came upon a car that was smoking and the driver did not realize it at the time.
He blew his horn until the driver pulled over and tried to put out the flames using his fire extinguisher. Unfortunately, leaking oil kept relighting the flames and in 10 minutes the car was engulfed. The fire department eventually arrived and put out the fire.
The driver was grateful for Elmore’s help and she later wrote an email to his company saying, “He helped and comforted me when I was so scared, and I am so thankful to him for that!”
Both drivers were awarded with a certificate, patch, lapel pin and truck decal and their companies also received certificates acknowledging that their drivers were Highway Angels.
