"Independent Contractor Leasing -- Avoiding The Pitfalls" is the title of an audioconference scheduled next week, sponsored by the Truckload Carriers Assn.'s Truckload Academy.
The audioconference will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST on Thursday, April 10.
Keeping up with the numerous regulations in operating equipment leased to and from independent contractors can be a daunting task. This audioconference on independent contractor leasing best practices offers participants the opportunity to hear from TCA legal experts and peers in the industry as they discuss the following questions:
-- How much control can you exercise over an independent contractor?
-- How can you improve the culture of your company to make it more appealing to owner-operators?
-- Is the money you deduct from the independent contractor's settlement an expense or an escrow fund -- how do you tell them apart?
-- Should you consider a lease-purchase program?
Among the speakers are Ken Siegel, former ATA deputy general counsel and an attorney for Strasburger & Price LLP, Washington, D.C. ; Al Hingst, executive vice president, U.S. Xpress, Lincoln, Neb.; and Jim O'Neal, president, O&S Trucking, Springfield, Mo.
Open to CEOs, CFOs, controllers/operations, human resources and safety personnel, the audioconference includes a live site hook-up and materials. The cost is $129 per site for TCA members and $159 for non-members.
For those who want the audiotape and materials only, the cost is $59 for audio conference participants who are TCA members and $79 for non-members
To take part, simply dial in on a speakerphone and have as many employees as you want listen in -- all for one price. To register for this audio conference, visit http://www.truckload.org.
