The Truckload Carriers Assn.'s Truckload Academy will sponsor an audio conference from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EST on Jan. 14, entitled "Implementing An Award-Winning Safety Management System."
The program is aimed at CEOs, safety directors, fleet managers and all who work with drivers. Insurance companies say safety programs are "more than videos and safety meetings." They say trucking companies know accidents are eating away at the bottom line, because they are assuming more of the risk with a higher deductible. Companies want to build a culture of safety throughout their organization and a management system that reduces risks.
How do you do it? Learn the inside story from carriers that have in place winning safety management systems. After participating in this audio conference, participants will have answers to the following questions:
* How do you get "buy in" from the entire organization -- from the CEO to the fleet manager to the driver?
* How do you know if you are selecting a safe driver?
* How do you manage, mentor and monitor a driver one-on-one?
* How do you use accident data to build training programs that no one will forget?
* How do you partner with equipment suppliers to develop preventive and predictable maintenance programs?
Speakers include Randy Cornell, vice president of safety, Contract Freighters Inc., Joplin,; William Kalbhenn, manager of safety and human resources, MacKinnon Transport Inc., Guelph, Ont.; Joseph Simons, vice president of human resources, Martin Transport Ltd., Mondovi, Wis.; and Bill Wiese, director of safety, Raven Transport Co., Jacksonville, Fla.
TCA audio conferences have been found to be easy, convenient and cost-effective, according to past participants. Companies dial in on a speakerphone, and as many employees as required can listen in, all for one price.
Site live hook-up and materials are $129 for TCA members and $159 for non-members. Audiotape and materials are $129 for members, $159 for non-members, and are sent about two weeks after the live session.
Those who sign up for any of the audio conferences can get a tape of that session for $59.
To register for the conference, go to the Events area of the Truckload Academy web site. For more information contact Virginia DeRose, TCA director of education & training, at (703) 838-1950 or email her at vderoze@truckload.org.
