The contest was last held in Joplin in 2012, and since then a massive tornado struck the city, causing extensive damage downtown and in other areas. Shell helped raise recovery money through Super Rigs, Waterman said.
Judging this year will be done by journalists and announcers from major trucking publications and broadcast companies. Judges will score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship, In total, 24 working trucks receive awards for categories such as Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination and Classic.
Contestants' trucks are working rigs carefully maintained by their owners. This is one of the entries from the 2012 event in Joplin.
Judging will be done Thursday through Saturday and each truck takes about 20 minutes each. Contestants do not need to be present to win. The awards ceremony will take place at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 11.
