On Feb. 4, leaders from the National Petroleum Councils study on Future Transportation Fuels will provide an overview of the study's findings and present publicly, for the first time, an in-depth review of the findings on the future of the heavy-duty industry.

This two-year study, entitled Advancing Technology for Americas Transportation Future, developed a comprehensive viewpoint on the future of alternative fuels, including natural gas, plug-in electric power, hydrogen, biodiesel, and gasoline and ethanol blends.

Responding to a request from the U.S. Secretary of Energy, the National Petroleum Council undertook the study with a team made up of over 300 leading academics, engineering experts and executives in the vehicles and fuels industries. The result is a long-term view of transportation fuel use in the U.S., combining the full breadth of alternative-fuel options alongside traditional diesel and gasoline.

The presentation will take place at The NATSO Show in Savannah, Ga., and will present detailed findings of the study.

Stakeholders across the freight industry want to understand the future of alternative fuels and how they will affect the diesel market, and this study delves into the alternative fuels entering the marketplace, fuel-vehicle options and market shares, fuel demand and costs in five-year increments from 2010 through 2050.

While the study is available to the public, the slides within the presentation havent been shown to the public and wont be before The NATSO Show, Savannah, Ga., Feb. 2-6 at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.

The presentation will answer:

- Will diesel power remain the dominant fuel source in the future?
- What will the natural gas market share look like for heavy-duty trucking in 2050?
- With the adoption of a wide variety of engine, powertrain, and vehicle technologies, how will heavy-duty truck fuel economy change in the next forty years?
- Will gasoline power be a formidable competitor in the medium-duty sector in the future?

The NATSO Show 2013 is scheduled to be held Feb. 2-6 at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.
