Smith System, an industry leader in professional driver training, says its SmithSAFE fleet monitoring program is now available.
SmithSAFE is a web-based fleet safety program that combines motorist observation reports with targeted driver education to improve driving habits and prevent collisions.
The SmithSAFE program goes beyond other 1-800 monitoring services by integrating training, monitoring, reporting and intervention into a full-circle program. When motorists call in, trained professionals screen, analyze and categorize calls. From these calls, observation reports are produced that include recommended preventive and training measures for the specific driving behavior. Fleet supervisors receive reports by email or access them through the Internet.
Recommended collision countermeasures are based on Smith System's "Five Keys to Space Cushion Driving," a time-tested driver training method.
The SmithSAFE program includes trend analysis, exception reports to indicate unusual situations, and benchmarks to compare each fleet against others in their industry. It also incorporates a stolen vehicle return system, where motorists' reports are compared to a database of vehicles or units that have been reported stolen and fleets are immediately notified. Fleets using the program have reported significant reductions in collisions.
"Depending on the severity, a single collision can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars," said Tony Douglas, president of Smith System. "The SmithSAFE program helps fleets identify and change poor driving behaviors before they result in collisions."
Smith System Driver Improvement Institute Inc. was founded in 1952 as one of the nation's first fleet driver safety training organizations with on-road, hands-on safety education techniques for experienced drivers. Smith System delivers behind the wheel instruction to more than 15,000 fleet drivers each year.
