The Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay program has verified Aerodynamic Trailer Systems' IAS Integrated Automated System to deliver 5.3 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.
With the new verification, its SmartTail with WindTamer will satisfy the California Air Resources Board's aerodynamic requirement for 53-foot trailers.
The SmartTail and the WindTamer products are designed for a 10-year life. The SmartTail improves the aerodynamic profile of the trailer with automated polymer skins that are mounted directly to the rear doors. Meanwhile, the WindTamer is designed to improve aerodynamics with its rugged low profile contoured cover mounted on the undercarriage of a vehicle.
