SkyBitz has formed a new Government Solutions group to provide remote asset management solutions for security and defense initiatives.
SkyBitz has developed solutions based on advanced technology from Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency that are ideal for government organizations with requirements to track and manage assets and cargo with continuous visibility and high security without access to a power source.
SkyBitz received DARPA funding to develop its patented Global Locating System technology and a two-way communication satellite communications protocol, which provides a more secure platform than traditional GPS and satellite communications solutions, the company says. In January the company introduced the SkyBitz GLS400 Mobile Terminal, a machine-to-machine (M2M) asset tracking solution. SkyBitz says its solutions provide continuous in-transit visibility of containers and mission critical assets in real time.
"Government entities bear a huge responsibility for managing a wide range of assets scattered around the globe as part of their mission to support the war fighter," said Homaira Akbari, SkyBitz president and CEO. "Managing these widely dispersed assets is a monumental challenge and the tools available to do this job to date have been limited. Our government team is committed to providing the most innovative and effective asset tracking and information management solutions available today at a lower cost than traditional solutions."
Late last year, SkyBitz also received Defense Transportation Tracking System II (DTTS) certification by The Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Commands (SDDC). This certification enables SkyBitz clients to meet the government's requirement for establishing a transportation protective service for tracking of arms, ammunition and explosives-laden commercial closed box van/trailers.
SkyBitz is also working with Iridium to build a solution that will feature lower power consumption and a longer battery life.
