The 28th annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs truck beauty competition kicks off today at the Lee Hi Travel Plaza in Lexington, Va.
Owner-operator truckers from across the U.S. and Canada will compete for cash and prizes valued at $25,000. In addition, 12 drivers will be selected to have their trucks featured in the 2011 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar. The event runs through June 12.
Trucks entered in Shell Rotella SuperRigs are judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications and broadcast companies. Judges score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality, and workmanship. In total, 25 working trucks receive awards for categories such as Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination and Classic categories.
The truck beauty contest is free to all participants. Every entrant will receive a gift package consisting of one gallon of Shell Rotella T Triple Protection engine oil; one gallon of Shell Rotella ELC Extended Life Coolant; a single application tube of Shell Retinax Fifth Wheel Grease; Shell Rotella SuperRigs T-shirt and hat; a 2010 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar; and a package of Rain-X wipes.
Shell Rotella SuperRigs truck beauty contest entrants can register on site upon arrival and enter the judging line whenever they are ready.
"The Shell Rotella SuperRigs event is one of the most anticipated events of the year for truckers, and it allows us to honor drivers and provide them the ability to showcase their amazing trucks each year," said Mark Reed, global brand manager, Shell Rotella.
Events and attractions anticipated during the three-day contest include a drive-in movie showing of "Smokey and the Bandit;" a carnival; hot air balloon rides; and a parade. The parade, which is being organized by the local community, will showcase some of the contestant entrants, a special collection of antique trucks, as well as local community and civic organizations.
Free nightly concerts include bluegrass band Nothin' Fancy; 70s show band Right On Band; and the country music of Burns & Poe.
