This year's National Cargo Security Council Conference, scheduled June 13-15 in Scottsdale, Ariz., already has attracted an overflow of exhibitors and a burgeoning number of registrants, who will attend a program that has been expanded in recent days.
New general sessions have been added on the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program and the American Trucking Association's "Anti-terrorism Action Plan" aimed at keeping key highways open, safe and secure.
"It's clear that the tragedy of Sept. 11 and the lingering fears of terrorist threats have had an impact on our organization and conference this year," said Thomas F. Sheets, NCSC chairman. "This will be the largest conference we've had in our 35-year history. As a result, we have expanded our program to cover essentially every angle imaginable in the cargo security arena, ranging from the latest technology solutions and government regulations to inspection programs and background checks."
Entitled "Securing Assets in the Global Supply Chain: People, Property, Products and Services," the annual conference features speakers such as U.S. Merchant Marine Administrator William Schubert; U.S. Sen. Ernest “Fritz” Hollings (D-S.C.); the Hon. Helen Bentley, a former Member of Congress (R-Md); Bonni Tischler, Asst. Commissioner of U.S. Customs, as well as recognized authorities from such logistics and technology leaders as IBM, Compaq, Kmart, Target, American Express, Ace Hardware, Swift Transportation, CNF and Savi Technology. In addition, speakers will represent nearly all U.S. government organizations engaged in security measures, including the FBI, U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, and MARAD.
The National Cargo Security Council is a professional association of cargo transportation and security professionals frp, air, truck, rail, maritime, and intermodal segments. For more information, visit www.cargosecurity.com.
