Schneider National Inc., which provides transportation, logistics and related services, was one of 12 companies selected by IDG's Computerworld for the Premier 100 IT "Best in Class" award for demonstrating
striking business value from a leading-edge technology project.
Paul Mueller, vice president of technology services for Schneider, was also recognized as a Premier 100 IT Leader. Schneider National's trailer tracking technology – which leverages wireless communications, GPS technology and sensors to pinpoint the precise location of a freight trailer, its loaded or empty condition and its transit status – was named "Best in Class" for delivering a dramatic increase in the utilization of its trucks, trailers and drivers while saving the company millions of dollars in reduced expenses.
PricewaterhouseCoopers sponsored the awards program, which recognized Schneider's pioneering efforts in trailer management.
Mueller was selected as a Premier 100 IT Leader from nearly 600 nominees who were measured against Computerworld's IT Leadership Index and evaluated by the editors and by an external panel of judges. The Index weighs a set of characteristics that describes executives who guide the effective use of IT in their organizations.
"It is an honor to receive these prestigious awards from Computerworld, and we are thrilled that Paul has been recognized for his breakthrough accomplishments in IT," said Judy Lemke, executive vice president and chief information officer at Schneider National. "His exceptional ability to stay ahead of the curve and execute complex transportation and logistics solutions has enabled us to remain competitive, cut costs and help our clients succeed."
