Schneider Logistics of Green Bay, Wisc., has announced a strategic relationship with Vitria Technology of Sunnyvale, Calif., providers of BusinessWare business process systems.
Schneider will use Vitria’s BusinessWare to ensure communications and functionality between internal operations and customers. Programs as different as Lawson, Oracle 8i and IBM's DB2 will be integrated using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), extensible Markup Language (XML) and other open protocols.
According to the joint announcement, any software system in the logistics management process can be included on this platform, eliminating the need to develop individual program-to-program connections.
"Schneider was looking for a vendor who could take our existing business processes and electronically automate them, with our internal systems, and with our trading partners," said Steve Matheys, CIO of Schneider Logistics. "Vitria not only had the most comprehensive, unified vision for both fields, but the most proven business process management platform to achieve this goal."
