Truckload powerhouse Schneider National has decided to outsource all of its fuel tax reporting to Comdata Corp. of Brentwood, Tenn.

Comdata will provide paperless fuel tax reporting for Schneider’s entire 12,500-truck fleet. Schneider of Green Bay, Wisc. is the largest truckload carrier in North America and the fifth largest motor carrier of any kind. The company grossed more than $3 billion in 1999.
According to an announcement, the multi-year contract with Comdata is believed to be the largest outsourcing agreement of its kind.
Comdata, a provider of transaction and information services to the transportation industry, has supplied ComChek card services for Schneider drivers since 1998.
Comdata's Paperless Fuel Tax product works with wireless communications devices and GPS systems to create a completely paperless fuel tax solution. The Schneider fleet uses Qualcomm’s OmniTRACS satellite-based system for mobile communications and location information.
Comdata's Regulatory Compliance Service division will merge Schneider truck positioning data with fueling transactions from Schneider's Comchek cards and company records and transmit the processed data back to Schneider National headquarters.
As part of the agreement, Comdata will assign a dedicated account team to Schneider National for specialized customer support and technical assistance.

"First, Comdata's system should provide extremely accurate routing and mileage measurements using satellite position data and fueling points. We believe this method is superior to our current method using dispatch data and fueling points to route and calculate mileages.
“Second, Comdata understands our needs and expectations because they have worked closely with us in many areas to provide services for our company and our drivers.
“Finally, allowing Comdata to process our fuel tax frees up resources to focus on our core business."
