SC&RA Gears Up For 2010 Symposium
The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association will hold its annual Specialized Transportation Symposium March 3-5, 2010, at the Intercontinental Dallas in Addison, Texas

The 2009 Specialized Transportation Symposium was held at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque.
Expected to attend are specialized carriers, pilot car operators, state and federal government officials, researchers, manufacturers and suppliers.
The symposium will include a candid appraisal by state transportation officials concerning overdimensional transport's critical issues, such as updates on the permit process, recent steps toward greater uniformity, and infrastructure constraints versus cargo movement demands. Panelists will include the chairs of the regional associations of highway transportation officials: Carol Davis, Texas; Corina Harmless, Indiana; and Tommy Thames, Mississippi. The organizers have also invited Joe Lee-Civalier, New York.
Other featured speakers will include representatives from the American Highway Users Alliance, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, NBIS Construction & Transport Insurance Services, the Texas Transportation Institute, and SC&RA member companies specializing in oversize/overweight transport.
Vince Poscente, the Olympic speed skater, will present a keynote speech based on his book, "The Age of Speed." He will explain how everyone in the audience can take control of their time, their tasks, their priorities and their talents.
Other sessions will cover such topics as:
* SC&RA's 2009 Hauling Jobs of the Year
* Highway Reauthorization 2010
* Significant developments at the FMCSA
* Possible improvements to the partnership between carriers and enforcement officials
* CSA 2010 and its potential impact on large truck and bus safety
* Challenges in over-dimensional moves
An exhibit center will be open for two days featuring companies that supply products and services to specialized carriers. On March 2, meetings of the Pilot Car Task Force and of regional associations of state highway and transportation officials will take place. Before the symposium's opening session on March 3, SC&RA will hold special sessions of its Truck Permit Policy Committee and Transportation Safety Committee.
