San Francisco officials want to ban trucks 25 feet or longer from much of the downtown area between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays.

Business owners, trucking company executives and Teamsters representatives blasted the proposal, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Instead, they suggested the city provide more on-street parking for trucks and step up enforcement of current double-parking laws.
Restaurant and hotel owners said they depend on trucks for daily deliveries. Robert Ramarino of Bob Rich Schroeder Trucking, representing the California Trucking Assn., suggested that the city create 60- to 80-foot yellow zones in each downtown block to allow trucks to pull in and deliver without double-parking and blocking traffic. The Teamsters union called the proposal a "job killer."
Department of Parking and Traffic officials said they are just starting the process of writing the proposal. Legislation could be presented to the Parking and Traffic Commission in a month or two.
