LTL heavyweight Roadway Express, Akron, Ohio, has added some snappy functions to its newly redesigned web site.

Perhaps the most helpful is something call eTracking, which allows anyone to request immediate notification by e-mail of individual shipment status.
eTracking is not entirely new; it has been available to users of Roadway’s password protected services. Now, eTracking is on the public Roadway web site.
eTracking is elegantly simple to use. At the Roadway web site, you select the “e-mail tracking” option. The eTracking screen prompts you for Roadway’s shipment PRO number. You are then asked to “select a notification option.” The active options are:
* When any status change occurs. (This option is marked “most comprehensive.”)
* Only if a shipment is late.
* Only when a shipment is delivered.
* Only for delivery exceptions.
A fifth option allows you to remove the shipment from the eTracking process.
You are then prompted for an e-mail address to which notices should be sent. As Roadway sees it, you can easily forward relevant e-mail to anyone concerned with the shipment.
Another new function called “Remote Control” launches a small window in our web browser. The window stays open while you work, keeping Roadway online information just a click away. You can shrink the Remote Control screen to your Windows program bar.
Remote Control only saves a mouse click or two, but the screens conserve display space and are easy on the eye. You can select one, for example, that resembles a genuine TV remote control.
