Roadranger lubricants have received the "E2T Environmental Excellence in Transportation Award" from the Society of Automotive Engineers for significant innovations in reducing the environmental impact caused by the transportation industry.

"Roadranger lubricants significantly reduce fluid waste," said Donna Mosher, lubricant engineering specialist for Eaton Corporation's Truck Group. Mosher noted that Roadranger lubricants, which are manufactured by Cognis Corp., have brought about notable waste oil reductions due to drain intervals that may be extended for up to seven times longer than those recommended for mineral-based lubricants.

In addition, Roadranger Synthetic FE 75W-90 axle lubricant has demonstrated fuel economy improvements in multiple tests of roughly one percent. For a fleet of 1,000 trucks in a typical linehaul application, the 1 percent savings can add up to a fiscal savings of more than $400,000 per year.

Eaton pioneered the use of full synthetic lubricants in its truck drivetrain components in the mid-1980s. Today, almost every heavy-duty truck built in North America comes factory-filled with Roadranger lubricant or another Roadranger-approved synthetic lube in its transmission and drive axles.

"Protecting and improving the environment are among Eaton's highest priorities," said Rick Muth, manager of Roadranger lubricants for Eaton. "Not only are we reducing our own emissions, energy and water consumption, and waste production, but we are also helping our customers and suppliers reduce theirs. Our entire lubricants team, which includes engineering teams at Eaton, Dana and Cognis, our Roadranger sales and marketing team, and our OEM customers, is honored to be presented with this prestigious award."

The award was presented at the recent SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit.

Roadranger-approved synthetics are required in Eaton's Fuller transmissions and Dana's Spicer axles in order to qualify for extended warranty coverage and up to 500,000-mile initial drain approvals. The lubricants meet and exceed transmission specification, Eaton PS164 REV7, and axle specification, Dana SHAES 256 REV C - which were introduced to improve low- and high-temperature operation, and provide better protection against gear wear in high-horsepower, high-torque, high-speed and heavy-load applications.
